1. Pittsburgh Steelers – The Steelers are loaded on D and once again rank as the top fantasy football D/ST in the game.

2. Green Bay Packers – A playmaking unit which is led by LB Clay Mathews, who gets after QB’s as well as any player in the game.

3. New York Jets – Rex Ryan’s bunch will be potent and create a lot of turnovers in 2011.

4. Baltimore Ravens – This unit made a lot of plays in 2010 and has more depth entering this season.

5. Philadelphia Eagles – They’ve made the biggest splash in Free Agency, locking down Nnamdi Asomugha and Dominique Cromartie-Rodgers, but they still need to gel. Potential to end top three by the end of the season.

6. Atlanta Falcons – The front office invested a lot to improve this unit after they were dismantled by Green Bay in the Playoffs.

7. New Orleans Saints – Now a year removed from their Super Bowl run, the Saints D is ready to attack once again.

8. Chicago Bears – DE Julius Peppers addition paid immediate dividends. Look for the Bears to put up solid numbers once again.

9. New England Patriots – This unit has a great deal of upside potential if the “Albert Haynesworth in a contract year” shows up. In addition to the slew of recently signed veterans, there’s a lot of young guys who are starting to get it here.

10. San Diego Chargers – They’ve been active in Free Agency and filled in some missing pieces. It’s also a plus to play in the AFC West.

11. New York Giants – The NFC East features two of the stronger offenses in the game, but New York is solid on defense and will be a No. 1 option in fantasy football this year.

12. Kansas City Chiefs – Romeo Crennel’s impact on the D was huge in 2010. There’s a lot of young talent which will only get better.

13. Detroit Lions – The Lions have retooled nicely on D and now feature a legit starting 11 on that side of the ball. DT Ndamukong Suh will have this unit attacking QBs and forcing turnovers.

14. Dallas Cowboys – The ’10 outfit was horrendous, quitting on Wade Phillips during the 1st half of the season. Look for Rob Ryan’s influence to be felt early on in Big D.

15. Miami Dolphins – Mike Nolan’s 2nd year in Miami should yield nice returns in fantasy. There’s a lot of youth ready to take that next step.

16. St. Louis Rams – Steve Spagnuolo’s bunch is the improving sort and should have a solid fantasy year playing in the NFC West.

17. Oakland Raiders – The loss of CB Nnamdi Asomugha hurts, but Oakland’s D still has playmakers on it. Look for them to create turnovers in 2011.

18. Tennessee Titans – Look for a bounce back after a disappointing season.

19. San Francisco 49ers – The 49ers have taken quite a hit in free agency, but should play with greater discipline under the new regime.

20. Minnesota Vikings - A top 5 fantasy football D/ST in recent years, the unit took a big step back a year ago. They could bounce back nicely in 2011 and be a nice fantasy sleeper.
