The AP has reported that the Rams have benched Marc Bulger in favor of Trent Green. Yeah, that should solve the problem (my eyes are rolling now). This is obviously a coach’s last attempt to save his job, but it won’t work. The Rams have become awful. This is only a surprise because when you look at the stars there are plenty to choose from; Holt, Jackson, Pace, Bulger, etc. However, when you look closer, you see what the problem is. The Rams have horrible play from both lines. On offense, they can’t block anyone; on defense, they can’t get to the QB or stop the run. This is a recipe for disaster. When defenses can’t get to the QB, without committing extra people to do so, it leaves large holes in the secondary and teams can pass at will. When teams can’t stop the run, their defenses get warn out and then opposing offenses can do as they like. This is the problem with the Rams, or, going forward, Lambs, as we’ll refer to them. You could put Joe Montana behind center, it wouldn’t change the result. This team is lacking where it counts – at coaching and personnel – and until this changes, there are going to be a lot of 3 to 4 win seasons in St. Louis immediate future.
