We were actually knocked out of the suicide pool in Week Five when the Bills somehow managed to lose at home to the Cleveland Browns. And the reason I say somehow is because Derek Anderson completed two of 17 passes for all of 23 yards! Our strategy has always been to try and find winnable games (Giants and Eagles were locks in Week Five) while keeping the better teams for later in the season. Unfortunately this time, it didn’t work out.
For those of you still in your suicide pool, our Week Six pick is the New York Jets. The Jets are facing those same Bills and coming off two tough losses.
Offensively, look for New York to pound the ball with RB Thomas Jones and RB Leon Washington. The Bills are down five starters on defense and don’t have the muscle inside to stop the run. This will do two things: wear down Buffalo’s defense and create opportunities for Mark Sanchez to utilize the play action pass to locate newcomer, WR Braylon Edwards and TE Dustin Keller.
Defensively, look for the Jets to have a huge showing after last Monday’s embarrassing effort in Miami. They will dominate an extremely porous Bills offensive line and limit Buffalo’s ground attack. They’ll also get after Trent Edwards – a QB playing with zero confidence – and force him into a few turnovers.
Normally the Bills play the Jets close; not this time. Expect a dominating effort by New York and an advance into Week Seven of your suicide pool.

Unfortunately, your strategy did backfire. As we all know, it's a very long season…and crazy things happen from week to week. Whether it be a bad matchup, an injury to a key player, or a hot opponent….saving good teams is just not the way to go. It's called a suicide pool for a reason. You pick on a week by week basis…the name of the game is to survive. Don't be so preoccupied and worried that you might not have team “A” for later in the season. If you don't GET there, you won't even have a reason to worry about not having said team. Worry about those later weeks as they come.
My two cents.

First of all I agree you live for today in a survivor pool
but even more YOU should be writing this column as it is actually done
and that is no one I know just has 1 team most have 3 if not 5
suggest u run yr column in future that you have 3 that way the stragedy is
even larger I know I have more then 1 team and have won twice in seven years by the fact we all can make 1 mistake.
ps to win with 1 entry is next to impossible
actually most pools give u 1 free team for every 10 entered.

Survivor Football Pool — WK 6
we have 3 entries and last week all made it so this week my picks will be
1 pitts 2 phil and 3 ??? some people use a sunday night or monday night game to give themselves time (of course pick has to be in same time as everyone else) ie you have the results in
and you may be the last player left, some spread there pick between 1 pm
and 4 pm games again to see if they made it (if a big upset a hedge bet can be placed before the 4 pm game or sun mon) (you get to diversify your picks works in investments why not here)
you also have more then 1 since this allows you to hope a fav does
go down even if your pick is on it
ie your wingmen can go down as long as 1 plane makes it and you take a lot with you
in addition you can hedge your late game with the spread and win both
like dall last week I put a small hedge on it my team made it
and I won cash as well
big thing here pressure is what gets u in the end so if u can be different with your stragedy and have the abilty to pick abstract ie not the norm
but at the same cover the norm you have a better chance of winning
personaly this is fun and better then betting week to week so outlay over
4 mths is cheap for the price
so I personally recommend the pools that offer 10 teams with 1 free
ps start writing the column with this in mine it gives you more life
on your column then saying I lost last week and now it leaves you
empty sort of but with 3 or 5 teams plus would be interesting
and stragedy is so much more
ps I like your column in spite of you losing last week and may I add
if you are really good u can sell the extra teams before the end
and make profit that way
