For Week Three of our Suicide Pool, we chose the Green Bay Packers. While it was close for the better part of three quarter, 23-17 midway through the third, the Packers pulled away late and won 36-17. And with that victory we moved onto Week Four of the pool.

This week, our selection is the San Francisco 49ers. They’re coming off a gut wrenching last second loss to the Minnesota Vikings and should be 3-0, as surprising as that is, if not for a last second prayer by Brett Favre. They’ll get their third win this week.

Offensively, look for the Niners to pound the ball with rookie RB Glen Coffee early on. This will open up the passing game and allow for some big opportunities to Vernon Davis down the middle of the field. It’ll also set-up the play action pass to Josh Morgan and Isaac Bruce on the outside. While this won’t be a shootout, Shaun Hill will efficiently lead this offense and put at least 20 on the board.

Defensively, the Niners will focus ALL of their attention on RB Steven Jackson. He’s the only Ram that can hurt them and Mike Singletary knows it. So expect No. 52 (Patrick Willis) to keep an eye on Jackson wherever he goes. QB Marc Bulger’s out with a bad shoulder and Kyle Boller will get the nod.  Expect the attacking Niners defense to sack him multiple times and force a few turnovers. The Rams will also be without a few of their top outside threats in this one.

The Rams are 0-3 and have been especially bad on the road (seven points in two games). And now they’re playing with a host of injuries… expect another anemic effort on Sunday and for the Niners to carry you into Week Five of your suicide pool.
