It was just reported that the Dallas Cowboys had acquired Lions’ WR Roy Williams for a 1st, 3rd and 6th round pick in the 2009 NFL Draft. Perhaps I’m missing something here, but isn’t the Cowboys problem with its defense? Are they planning on putting Williams (not to be confused with the team’s other Roy Williams, the safety who can’t cover anybody) in the secondary?
Two things are becoming increasingly evident about Jerry Jones this season: he’s obsessed with winning a Super Bowl and is mortgaging the house in the process (perhaps this is because their hated division rival, the New York Giants, won it last year), and b) he thinks that the only way he’ll accomplish that goal is by scoring 50 points per game because his defense’s problems are too great to be fixed in ’08.
Personally, I think it’s a huge mistake. TO’s been crying about not receiving the ball enough since he arrived there; now they’re going to bring in another big-time receiver, who’s sure to get a fair share of balls thrown his way, and this will keep their enigmatic star happy? Wrong. The reason being is he’s not a team player. He always puts himself above team and that’s not going to change at this late stage in his career. Second, the team’s problems are on the defensive side of the ball and when the weather changes, and the temperature drops, you’re not going to be able to air it out anyway. Defense and running wins championships; ask the 2007 Patriots.
It’ll be interesting now to see how things shake out. Dallas is entering a critical time in its 2008 season and they’re at the edge of the precipice. Romo is out for four weeks; Pacman was suspended indefinitely; the defense is in shambles; the offense is inconsistent and now, in an act of desperation, they’ve given up a considerable amount in order to attain a receiver that doesn’t really put them “over the top.” I guess Jones has already forgotten the Joey Galloway debacle…
So kids, let this be another lesson that making imprudent decisions will not get you what you want. My money says we’ll be seeing a whole lot more of those TO post-game press conferences – the one’s where he’s crying behind his glasses – except now, it won’t be to defend his QB who took a mini-vacation during the week before the divisional playoff game; instead, it’ll be because he didn’t get the ball enough and how that was the reason why the Cowboys fell way short – probably as short as GM’s end of the year earnings expectations – of their Super Bowl aspirations they had coming into the season.
Time and time again it’s been proven that you can’t buy a championship – especially in this day in age – and you’ve got to love when it rings true one more time and you’re talking about America’s team, the Dallas Cowboys.

If there is one thing I have noticed with this blog, it is the hatred felt for Terrell Owens. What is your deal with him? He is one of the all time greatest receivers, and you can’t stop trashing this guy. Is the glorified tight end himself, Keyshawn Johnson, writing this blog? These viewpoints sound like the kind of man that is still hurt that TO ran wild and sent his team out of the 2002 playoffs with a devastating loss, much like Big Brown in the belmont!
Dallas acquiring Roy Williams was a great trade. They did pay a decent price, but do you think a player of his caliber will be sitting in the draft with a late first round pick? That is where players like Rashaun Woods and William Joseph go, so this was a good deal. Williams is a big play receiver, and the duo of TO and Williams will be very tough to stop. Add in Crayton and the emerging Miles Austin, not to mention Witten, and you have quite a passing game.
There defense has been bad this year, but do you really believe that is because of a lack of talent? They have the players, the coaches just need to do a better job with them. We shall see how the defense does as the season progresses, but you would expect them to improve.
Now I am not saying the Cowboys will be the last team standing, I am just saying they are in a weaker division than was once thought, and they have a great chance of taking the NFC East crown. But I’m sure Washington and Philadelphia will have a say in that. (Giants were just downgraded to NFC West quality with there “stellar” performance Monday. Really, Browns?)

Ya right. This addition will make the Cowboys the best team in football. How can you stop all those offensive players? You can’t. TO is going to be even better now that he has another great receiver opposite him. The defense will get better also once Newman is back. Cowboys are winning the Super Bowl! Getcha popcorn ready!

Hold the phone on both you cardboard Cowboy fans. It doesn’t make a big difference at all that the Cowboys got Roy. All it changes is the mindset of the QB that TO won’t be facing as many double teams. The fact is this, TO is pissed because it’s his QB’s own insecurities that keep him from getting the ball. Can he get a decent ball thrown to him. Yea they threw to him 18 times against washington, but why are you throwing it chest level to a guy that can out jump the db by 2 feet. TO has every right to be angry, all of the Dallas Cowboys have made their careers on his coat tails. Why are the on tv every week? TO! Why are they must watch football? TO! Why does everyone like to take about them? TO! The Cowboys are the best team in football because of TO and will win the superbowl if whichever QB is in, just gives him the damn ball. Your talking about a receiver that trails only Jerry Rice in TD receptions and has never been in any legal trouble whatsoever. The reason people hate him is because he threatens their relevance and the relevance of their heroes! Lets face it, TO is Jerry Rice with more flavor. And as far as the Pacman, TO’s team is better off witout that midget in the backfield getting burned every week being rebellion.

Hey, give the Pacman a break. At least this incident was not at a script club!

You mean TO is Jerry Rice with less hands. That guy led the league in drops two seasons ago and he’s the one crying? but you are right, TO does help get the Cowboys on TV every week and I love it because he’s always moping on the sidelines or yelling at someone about something. TO = distraction. Good move to get Roy Williams so they can finally dump that overrated bum!

TO= distraction? TO= win. I am a 49er fan (and I say that under my breath), and look at our sorry franchise ever since we let him go. Then TO took Philly to the super bowl, putting on a dazzling performance on a bad ankle, only to be denied his ring because of his overrated, choke job quarterback. TO has taken Dallas back to the top, and if Romo can stop with the major mistakes he always seems to have in meaningful games, TO can take Dallas to the promised land. Quick question, if TO is available, would you want him on your team? The only people that would say no to that are the Matt Millens and Mike Nolans of the world. TO is a winner, one of the best receivers the game has ever seen, and a man to take your team to the top. But football is a team game, and until his qb can match his greatness, he will always be without that ring. Now put him on a team with Tom Brady/Peyton Manning, and watch out!

I could not agree anymore than what you said 49er. TO has made careers for the quarterbacks that have had the opportunity to play with him. Just look at what he’s done while they played with him and look what they’ve done since. Its a shame that our society wants to ridicule guys like TO for being a bad teammate. Since when do we bash someone who just strives to be the best? He sees plays that could be made but aren’t because of stupid quarterback decisions. The QB is the real prima donna. They aren’t the ones running 40 in 4.3 every damn play. I’d rather have a guy who strives to be great than someone who settles for mediocrity like the Plaxico’s and Randy Moss’s of the world. When we look back at TO’s career we will see him as the 2nd greatest receiver to ever live, but the most underappreciated.
